About this role
- Level Design & Content Quality: Design, build, and iterate high-quality puzzle levels with clear goals, engaging challenges, and strong gameplay variety.
- Ensure levels effectively introduce, combine, and evolve game mechanics throughout the player journey.
- Maintain consistent level quality and design standards across the game.
- Review and provide feedback on levels created by other Level Designers.
- Difficulty Balancing & Player Segmentation: Define and maintain the overall difficulty curve, progression pacing, and challenge distribution.
- Balance levels using both design judgment and player performance data such as win rate, attempts, fail rate, booster usage, and churn.
- Collaborate with Product and Data teams to integrate Level Balancing with Player Segmentation, delivering appropriate difficulty experiences for different player groups.
- Design and validate balancing rules for different player states, such as struggling, stable, and high-skill players.
- Continuously identify difficulty spikes, frustration points, and overly easy sections and propose balancing solutions.
- Data-Driven Optimization & Experimentation: Analyze level and player performance data to identify opportunities for improving retention, engagement, and progression.
- Develop hypotheses and support A/B tests related to difficulty, level configuration, progression, and personalized balancing.
- Evaluate experiment results and translate insights into actionable level design improvements.
- Establish key level health metrics and monitoring practices for continuous optimization.
- Level Design System, Tools & Scalability: Build and maintain level design frameworks, difficulty standards, templates, and reusable design guidelines.
- Collaborate with Developers to improve internal tools for level creation, testing, balancing, configuration, and publishing.
- Explore AI-assisted and procedural level generation to accelerate content production and generate level variations.
- Improve the level production pipeline to increase testing speed and scalability while maintaining quality.
- Cross-functional Leadership & LiveOps Support: Collaborate closely with Product, Game Design, Development, Data, Art, and QA teams to align level design with product goals.
- Support LiveOps events, limited-time modes, and new gameplay features with appropriate level content and difficulty strategies.
- Mentor Junior/Mid Level Designers and provide structured design feedback.
- Take ownership of overall level quality, difficulty health, and continuous improvement from both player-experience and product-performance perspectives.
What we're looking for
Education
- Bachelor's degree
Knowledge
- Understanding of the mobile game market, quick to grasp trends
- Knowledge of product analysis and evaluation
- Knowledge of probability and statistics
- Knowledge of Unity (C#)
Experience
- 4+ years of experience in game design
Skills
- Good communication skills
- Good research, information processing, and synthesis skills
- Ability to acquire and learn new knowledge
